WordPress Calendar for Campaign Event Tracking
In my Ptolus: City by the Spire Campaign, it was difficult to document events and track timelines. So, I installed the Events Calendar plugin on the Ptolus WordPress site to help me and it’s been awesome!
I’ve mentioned the Ptolus Website I built for Monte Cook’s amazing city campaign environment “Ptolus: City by the Spire” previously. Currently I’m running 3 campaigns using this sprawling fantasy metropolis as the background.
These are all Play By Post (PBP) campaigns and keeping track of in game events and timelines was causing me a great deal of headache. Thus my idea for adding the Events Calendar WordPress Plugin to the Ptolus website.
Not only that, but Ptolus has its own Calendar with custom month and day names. Thanks to The Events Calendar and WordPress’s awesome Language Translation features I was able to easily change the Month and Day names to fit Ptolus.
The Events Calendar plugin also makes it really simple to give your players access to add items to the calendar so you the DM/GM/Narrator don’t have to do all the work.
The visualization of seeing happenings on certain days and the ease of counting the number of days for future events and plot timelines is a really wonderful tool.
My players and myself are already loving this and we’ve only been using it for a few days.
Obviously not everyone has a WordPress website for their campaigns, but there are tons of other resources out there. You could go super simple and use a Google Calendar shared with your players, or you could use website like Obsidian Portal, Campaign Logger or any of the other countless resources.
If you’re SUPER old school, I guess you could just write it on a paper calendar. *shudder
But please save the trees and don’t do that. haha
